I am pleased to announce that Daniel Owodunni, a Ph.D. candidate in geology at Louisiana State University (LSU), is the recipient of the 2025 Graduate Studies Award. His winning essay, which will be published in Lithosphere, traces a powerful journey from the polluted waterways of Lagos, Nigeria, to advanced geochemical research in the U.S. In addition to conducting research in paleoclimate reconstruction and organic geochemistry, Daniel serves as the president of the AAPG/SEG Student Chapter at LSU, mentors early-career scientists, and organizes hands-on science events for K–12 schools and local communities. His work reflects a deep belief that science should serve both discovery and the well-being of communities.

Platform Update - Revised Toolbar
A revised toolbar has been introduced on content pages to streamline access and improve usability. This update is designed to support more intuitive navigation and better integration with GSW’s map-based discovery tools.
Key changes include:
PDF link moved to the first position for greater visibility
OpenGeoSci links directly from the toolbar, using GeoRef bounding coordinates
Share options removed in response to feedback from users and librarians
Permissions and Cite tools have been consolidated under a single Tools menu
Self-Hosted Proxy Ranges
Our platform provider, Silverchair, has achieved ISO 27001 certification, an important milestone in its commitment to information security. A migration to CloudFlare services is a crucial component of this certification.
Some institutional proxy IP ranges, especially those that are self-hosted, may need to be added to the allow list for CloudFlare to maintain uninterrupted access. If you haven't already done so, please send me your information and proxy IP range. GSW will take care of the steps to ensure that your proxy access continues smoothly.
If your faculty are confused by the myriad OA licenses available, as a recent AAAS survey indicated many researchers are, this Science magazine article offers some clarity.
