This week we announced the first recipient of the GeoScienceWorld Diversity and Representation Award, a new annual scholarship program that aims to lower barriers to participation for graduate students from historically marginalized communities in the Earth Sciences, Planetary, or Earth Science-adjacent degree programs. The winner, Barira Rashid, a PhD candidate and graduate research assistant at the University of Arkansas, will receive a cash prize of $5000 and have her winning essay published in GSW’s OA journal, Lithosphere. There were a number of highly-qualified applicants, but her essay stood out for its compelling personal story, her work in GIS mapping to address environmental injustices and promote sustainability, and her impactful mentorship initiatives to help other women and minorities chart their course toward success. Please join me in extending our congratulations to Barira.

New Platform Features
Our platform team is focused on improving the user experience and the accessibility of our content. New enhancements include:
Beginning mid-July article links will appear in our map-based search tool, OpenGeoSci.
Our platform provider, Silverchair, has achieved ISO 27001 certification, an important milestone in its commitment to information security.
In the coming weeks, the article recommender, TrendMD, will appear on all journal pages. This tool helps readers find additional relevant content for their research.
Remember When?
Celebrating 20 Years!
Thank you to our visionary founders, pictured above at one of the first GSW board meetings, to the societies and libraries who put their trust in our unique nonprofit model, and to the countless researchers who dedicate their careers to expanding our understanding of the geosciences. In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we are excited to share a special video featuring the founders, partners, personnel, and leadership behind the GSW story. I hope you enjoy learning a little more about what makes GSW so unique.
You may have seen the news from the British Geological Survey that Taylor Swift’s record-breaking concerts in Edinburgh, Scotland, triggered earthquake readings that were detected up to 6 km from the venue. A recently published paper in Seismological Research Letters, "Shake to the Beat: Exploring the Seismic Signals and Stadium Response of Concerts and Music Fans," confirms that concert-goers in other cities, specifically Inglewood, CA, have felt the earth move under their dancing feet.
